Lithgow EV Charging Stations
The uptake of electric Vehicles is increasing and more drivers are seeking easy access to fast chargers. The Council has been working with NRMA on a project to place a bank of chargers within the CBD precinct in the Eskbank Street Carpark enabling visitors or locals to shop while their vehicle charges.
This project will see:
- The creation of a 3-metre wide and 18-metre-long easement over community land within the Eskbank Street carpark, between Eskbank Street and Mort Street
- Installation by NRMA of a new pad mounted substation onsite and a bank of four chargers, requiring the permanent use of eight spaces within the Eskbank Street carpark.
This project aligns with Council’s adopted Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy to enable destination charging and increase the patronage of Lithgow’s Main Street.
Why do you need to create an easement?
The project was made slightly more challenging as the existing electrical infrastructure on-site was not sufficient to meet the needs of the charging units. The substation, once installed, will connect to the chargers through a 3m wide, 18m long cable easement. This is located across the eastern access to the carpark (at the intersection of Eskbank Street and Mort Street Lane) and does not create any access concerns regarding Council’s own infrastructure.
This easement requires community consultation and council approval. Please note the following, with respect to the creation of this easement:
- The Eskbank Street carpark is community land.
- An easement creates an “estate” in relation to land.
